What age can I get a tattoo or brand?
If you have written consent from your parents, there is nothing preventing you from getting a tattoo at any age.
Section 103 of the Children & Community Services Act (WA) states:
A person must not in any manner tattoo or brand any part of the body of a child unless the person has first obtained the written consent of a parent of the child to tattoo or brand the child in that manner and on that part of the child’s body.
Penalty: a fine of $12,000 and imprisonment for one year.
This means that a tattoo artist cannot tattoo anyone under the age of 18 unless he/she has written consent from a parent. This would also apply to anyone who is not a tattoo artist who gives you a home-made tattoo or brand.
If there is no written consent from the parent, the tattoo artist commits an offence (not you).
