Our Commitment to You

Youth Legal Service Inc. (YLS) is a Community Legal Centre providing free legal advice and assistance to young people up to 25 years of age.

 

We acknowledge that contact and working with children and young people is a critical responsibility and are committed to the protection and safety of all young people who access our service.

The Board of Management and staff of YLS share the responsibility and obligation to:

  • Promote practices where the protection, safety and well being of children and young people who access our services is always paramount.
  • Promote a culture where children and young people are treated with dignity, equality, and respect.
  • Listen to and respond appropriately to the views and concerns of children and young people.
  • Ensure children and young people understand their rights, including access to age appropriate material explaining what they can expect when receiving a service from YLS.
  • Respond quickly, fairly, and transparently to issues or complaints made by a child or young person.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks to ensure continuous, safe, responsive, and efficient services.
  • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
  • Provide legal services in an effective, safe, and responsive way to achieve the best possible outcome for the child or young person.
  • Provide services in a culturally safe and appropriate manner.
  • Provide services in a way that strengthens the rights of the child or young person and is ethical.
  • Act in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations WA and all relevant State laws and regulations.
